Construction resumes

Construction crews returned to Houghton on June 29 to resume renovations to the Houghton building. Using protocols designed to ensure personal health and safety, workers have been focused on installing a new public elevator and enhancements to the front entry, lobby, reading room, and other spaces. If public health conditions allow, we plan to be able to reopen the Houghton building in some capacity as soon as late January, with hopes for a commemorative celebration later in 2021. We have all had to adjust to the uncertainty endemic to the time of pandemic, but these dates and plans—provisional though they are—allow us to look forward to sharing Houghton collections, services, and programs in a building better designed to welcome a broader and more diverse set of researchers, students, and other visitors.
